Back Bay Bistro Wine Program
The Back Bay Bistro wine program is designed to set new standards in the Newport Beach food and wine scene and makes the Bistro a premier destination for wine lovers.
The program consists of a Diverse Wine Menu is structured with moderately priced wine that offers a complete set of the great classical wines from around the world. Including strong representatives of all the great appellations of France, Italy, Germany and Spain. The menu also presents the best of the New World from California, Oregon, Washington, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, South Africa and Australia.
The Back Bay Bistro has partnered with OC Wine School to offer a Wine Education Series. Courses will be available the first Thursday of every Month. New Courses will be listed on our website as they become available.
Peter & Holly Smith are specialists in wine, travel and hospitality and own the world’s leading wine travel company, Avalon Wine Tours. It was at the suggestion of their clients that they start a wine education series to demystify the secrets of wine and the pretentiousness that often accompanies it. They founded the OC Wine School in 2012 with the aim to educate the public as well as professional wine staff in all aspects of wine including tasting, presentation, food-pairing and storage. The OC Wine School’s approach can be as relaxed or formal as the client demands with their motto being “edutainment”, learn and have fun!
In addition to their tour company and wine school Peter designs personal and restaurant cellar collections, is a keynote speaker on wine tourism, a freelance wine journalist with numerous articles in the Sommelier Journal, the Underground Wine Journal and other publications, as well as writing his own wine blog Avalon Wine. Peter is also a member of the Institute of Hospitality, the winemakers’ brotherhoods of the Jurade of St. Emilion and Les Chablisiens in Chablis. Peter’s affiliations include: The Society of Wine Educators, Wine Educators Worldwide, The American Wine Society, The French Wine Society and the Orange County Wine Society.
Holly Smith got her start in the food and wine business as a chef aboard private and charter yachts in the Caribbean and Europe in the 1980’s. She opened her own catering business in 1992 and has been planning events for various organizations and individuals ever since, from intimate dinner parties to major corporate events.
