$25 MILLION CAR SHOW CAMPS OUT AT NEWPORT DUNES JUNE 20-22
(Russo and Steele To Auction Off 400+ Classic Cars; CHOC To Benefit)
You’re going to need to bring your checkbook for this one. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort will play home to one of the nation’s most extraordinary collection of top-of-the-line European sports cars, hot rods, American muscle vehicles and custom autos as Russo and Steele holds its legendary auction event for the first time in Newport Beach June 20-22. (Classic Motorsports magazine hails Russo & Steele’s show as “the best group of cars we’ve ever seen.”)
A charity preview benefiting Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) will kickoff the festivities on Thursday, June 20 with dinner, dancing and a live auction; tickets are $150 each. Over the weekend (June 21 & 22), the show opens at 10 a.m. with bidding at noon. While general admission tickets are $20, those interested in bidding pay $150.
According to Dunes Vice President and General Manager Andrew Theodorou, attendees from all over the world are expected to attend.
“Ever since Russo and Steele announced that Newport Dunes would serve as the site of its upcoming auction, we’ve been deluged with calls from car enthusiasts around the globe who intend to participate in the event,” said Theodorou, who says more than $25 million worth of cars will be featured.
Among the rarities available at previous auctions (an indicator as to the quality of vehicles that will be for auction):
· 1958 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster – sold for $727,100
· 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe – sold for $605,000
· 1969 Chevrolet Douglass Yenko Comaro Coupe – sold for $253,000
· 1940 Packard Darrin Convertible Custom – sold for $242,000
According to Andrew Alcazar, who with his wife, Josephine, own and operate Russo and Steele, the auction at Newport Dunes will feature a number of highly unusual and valuable European sports, hot rods, muscle cars and custom autos.
“We’re excited to mark our Southern California debut at Newport Dunes as the region is home to some of the world’s most serious car collectors who will appreciate the breadth and quality of vehicles we are assembling,” said Alcazar.
Among the cars to be featured at the Dunes’ show are a rare 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster, one of only 225 remaining in the world and most recently owned by Grammy winning country star Alan Jackson, and the rarely seen AA/FD Top Fuel Dragster driven by George “The Stone Age Man” Hutcheson.
