Early in the morning, Newport Dunes participated in the release of two rescued sea lions back into the wild at Aliso Creek State Beach.

Meadow, a young male sea lion was found in the upper Back Bay malnourished and dehydrated with multiple fish hooks. Weighing just 35.5 lbs., on May 11, 2022 Meadow needed help.  The Pacific Marine Mammal Center came to his rescue and brought him back to their rescue facility.  Over the next couple months, Meadow recovered and gained weight.

On July 29, weighing 72.8 lbs., Meadow was released alongside another female yearling named Licorice.  The moment the crates touched the sand, these two sea lions were ready to get back to the water.  A representative from Newport Dunes opened the crate, and the sea lion immediately bounded for the water.
